On the Internet “Content is King” and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
Content brings life to your web pages. It’s the reason why people come to your site, and why they will, or won’t, come back to your website again.
What is crappy content then, and how do we recognize it?
Crappy content is . . .
- Content telling you how wonderful they are, but not how they’re going to solve your problems.
You know this one, it’s the company website that goes on and on about who they are and what they do and how great they are at doing it, but they never get around to giving you a reason to use them. There’s no compelling content drawing you in, making you want to meet them.
- Content that looks like a 12 year old girl typed it.
Lots of !!! and !?! and ?? and !! – you get the idea. Too much slang like the use of words like ”cool”, “props”, “hella” and anything else that makes it look like your website is still in high school. STOP USING ALL CAPS TOO!!!!!
- Content that isn’t easy to read.
Either the text is too small, the background is a color that makes it impossible to read or the font is not a standard web font and most computers can’t read it. Your background should not compete with the content so don’t be afraid of white space.
- Content lacking a professional look.
The logo and graphics look like a bad scan of a business card or college design project.
- Content which isn’t scannable.
People do not read on the Web; instead they scan web pages, trying to pick out a few sentences to obtain the information they need. Help them.
